Commit to Running During the Holidays in 5 Steps!

The holidays are in full effect, and some people will lead you to believe that this is a difficult time to run. I am not one of them. Commit to running during the holidays in 5 steps!

My Running Diary: November 28th, 2018

So you’re prepared to commit to running during the holidays? My first advice is to be completely open-minded when it comes to running during this time of year. Do not put too much pressure on yourself and just let yourself have fun with running. Remember why you run and embrace that! Now on to our 5 steps to commit to running during the holidays!

Step 1: Make Reasonable Goals
I love setting goals for how many days I want to run around the holidays, but I’m always reasonable with them. I will be on the east coast during the holidays this year for 10 days. During that time, I want to run five days and I hope for seven. So if I do anymore it’s a bonus!

Step 2: Schedule Your Runs
If you always think you’re too busy to run, or you’re worried about being busy, then I highly recommend creating a schedule for yourself. This will help you to stay consistent, which is exactly what I need during the holidays. It’s so much easier to run through the New Year if you’ve run during the holidays.

Step 3: Run Different Routes
It’s dark and cold in the mornings. I know that sometimes I want to stay in bed, but if I know I’m running a different route, then I’m more motivated. Create some new running routes for yourself. This will give your body and mind something different!

Step 4: Embrace A Running Music Playlist
Some people say they don’t run with music. Some say they can’t run without it. I do both, but I love running with music. A great running playlist can make or break your run. Creating something fresh always invigorates my runs! Add your favorite music with a good beat to help you push your running stride.

Step 5: Have FUN!
No matter if it’s a hard run or an easy run, I always have fun. I love running, but trust me when I say that I definitely had to learn to love to run. Remind yourself why you run and why you love to run. That’s your main reason to do it and a reason why you should always just have fun. Let go of any pressure and just enjoy yourself.

Running around the holidays is amazing. I always feel so accomplished, especially when I’m running in cold weather on the east coast. It puts into perspective how lucky I am to live in a temperate climate, but also shows me that I can push my body to extreme limits.

Remember that there is so much going on during the holidays and running is your “you time.” Making sure that you carve out that time is imperative. Just take a look at your running and what you can do to make sure you have success. That’s what I’ve done and implemented in my 5 steps to commit to running during the holidays!
