IT Chapter 2: The Good, The Bad, The Ugly | BuzzChomp Movie

Time to break down IT Chapter 2: The Good, the bad, and the ugly! I’m a sucker for a good scary movie, wait let me strike that I’m a sucker for scary movies in general. IT Chapter 2 is here to “scare” audiences and we’re letting you know if it holds up or not!

IT Chapter 2 is in theaters everywhere and I just experienced it over the weekend. It was generally an enjoyable movie, touting itself as “darker” and “scarier” than the first one which I definitely disagree with. I’m breaking down the good, the bad, and the ugly. Make sure you watch our full video here!

The good of the movie is definitely casting! The older versions of the kids from the first movie are spot on. The actors had their mannerisms, attitude, and just embody their younger selves. I love it when movies do this and it’s even better when they are spot on.

Another good I will say is that even though I definitely think this is a flawed movie, I thoroughly enjoyed it. There were really fun moments, some scary moments, they nailed the scary gross, and there some hilarious moments that definitely were not meant to be funny, but they were.

There are definitely some bad moments in IT Chapter 2, but the biggest one for me is the length. There is absolutely no reason this movie had to be almost three hours. It was far too long and they could have at least cut out 30 minutes if not more. There is this trend of movies being unnecessarily long, I’m looking at you Avengers Endgame. There is a specific style of movie that is okay being 3 hours. You know Schindler’s List, Dances with Wolves, any of those style movies.

A horror movie like this should be concise, to the point, and really not need to much exposition. IT Chapter 2 gives so much exposition and that definitely takes away from moments of the film. It made those sections drag on when there was no need to.

The ugly is the ending! Without giving any spoilers, the ending should have been so much better especially since the movie stresses Bill’s lack of ability to end any of his book. It’s a nod to Stephen King himself, the original IT, but even with all the ending talk they did not deliver on it. We waited the whole film to see how they’d defeat Pennywise and in the end it came down to some reverse bullying!
