A gut wrenching cliffhanger leaves tons of questions after the His Dark Materials season 1 finale. No one’s life is safe from the pursuit of science. Our Episode 8 season finale reaction and more!

 

The season 1 finale of His Dark Materials forced us to sacrifice everything we loved about the series, but left us with a cliffhanger worthy of this dark and disturbing universe. I have so many unanswered questions that only Lyra and the alethiometer can answer. Lord Asriel proved himself to be just like his lover Marisa, a passionate villain who will murder children in the pursuit of science and magic. Poor Roger. There were already two splinters, two bridges between worlds, in existence. Yet Lord Asriel murdered Lyra’s best friend to create another.

If Asriel was so smart and driven to connect the worlds, why did he not search for an existing bridge? If he knew so much about the college at Oxford, how could he miss the splinter Lord Boreal strolls through on a daily basis? Will stepped through a splinter, as did Lyra and Asriel. Where they end up is anyone’s guess, but hopefully their paths cross in season two. What a great conclusion to season 1 of His Dark Materials.
