Sometimes my running motivation comes in the form of a need. It is evident that some days I just need to run, and so do you. This has been a continuing theme in my fitness/running journey.
My Running Diary: October 8th, 2018
There are some days I know I just need to run, and that’s why it’s the perfect running motivation. This feeling of need has been something I’ve felt all my life. Even when I was a child, I loved to just run around and play. I loved the way it made me feel and how strong I felt even when I was little. This need to run persists within me, and I can feel it many days prior to running.
I really like to be in control of my life, but lets face it, this is nearly impossible, especially when you have babies. The one thing I can control is running. When I get in my groove I always feel that need to run. Currently, I’m living in that place and it’s my running motivation. Even on days when I haven’t gotten a lot of sleep, I still want to go out and run.
There were only a handful of mornings last month where I cut a run short, or did my quicker running route. I save my quicker running route for days when I’m extremely tired or pressed for time. In August, I found myself doing that a lot. This year, in general, I’ve indulged in more shorter runs. But in September and October thus far, I have not done many short runs. I’ve been craving the road.
My need to run comes from me committing myself to my journey. I love the way running makes me feel and there have been a few mornings where I thought, what if I didn’t go and run? Then that thought quickly disappeared and was replaced by a better one; that’s silly! I had no reason or desire to take the morning off.
Running is extremely personal for me. I go in waves of running more with my husband, but normally its just me pushing my baby. Her and I don’t chat that much, because we both just take our own moments. This is really why I love running so much with her, because she seems to equally like the silence. Some mornings she chats to herself or sings, sometimes she snoozes, sometimes she plays with her shoes, and sometimes she just takes in the run. I love being able to give her that gift and that’s another reason why I feel the need to just run.

There are so many things out of our control in life, but the one thing we always have control of is our fitness journey. Running is one of those activities where you only need a pair of shoes and you can do it just about anywhere at anytime! Once you’re able to connect with what you love about running, you’ll want to recreate that love every single day. There’s no better running motivation!
