It was never going to be easy, but the New York Giants caught a HUGE break with the 2026 schedule. Now if only Nabers can get back healthy for week one.

How about them New York Giants? The NFL schedule release has become an event… for some reason. It’s just another NFL news item, and fans can’t get enough of NFL news. The 2026 season schedule is officially out now, with the order and timing of all opponents. The opponents themselves were already known, making this “event” even weirder.
In recent years, teams have begun to make fun/quirky/awkward/cringe videos to announce the schedule. This year, the Giants sent Jameis Winston out onto the street to play Pictionary with fans. If they could guess what team Winston was drawing, they’d win tickets to the game. Cool?

As far as these videos go, it’s not bad. Winston is one of the more gregarious players in the league and his drawings were bad enough to make the game hard. Plus, they didn’t linger too long on each spot. That said, the drawings were presented out of order, which is kind of stupid considering the premise. This is the schedule reveal video; don’t give me the schedule in the wrong order!
After the dust settled on those wacky videos, we did get the official schedules; so there’s that! For the Giants, ignoring the order of Winston’s drawings, they begin the ’26 season in kind of a good spot. They have seven games before their Week 8 bye: only three are on the road; only two-ish games are against good opponents from last year; it’s a first half that could allow New York to get off to a really fast start. Then things get ugly, but this schedule was never going to be easy.
New York Giants Catch Huge Schedule Break

Fast Start, Strong Finish
Todd Salem: I will spot you Los Angeles and Houston, both on the road, as definitively hard games. The rest of the five games early in the season are teams at the Giants’ level or clearly worse: Dallas, Tennessee (against Brian Daboll), Arizona, Washington, and New Orleans. NYG shouldn’t be expected to sweep these, but they should be in contention to win every single one.
After the bye, things get considerably tougher. Of the final 10 games of the season, only one can be considered an easy game: hosting Cleveland in Week 15. Outside of that, we have more toss-up games against non-pushovers, or really hard games against teams expected to be elite. The latter includes all of Philadelphia, Jacksonville, San Francisco, Seattle, Detroit, and Philadelphia a second time.

Overall, I don’t mind the ordering. With a young offense under a new coaching regime, getting off to a fast start will be hugely beneficial. Having by far the easiest half of the schedule up front allows for that. If the Giants struggle through the first half and are something like 2-5 heading into the bye, it’s going to be a really bad season. There won’t be any saving it. But a fast start could build momentum heading into the tougher opponents in late winter.
Facing the NFC West means there was never going to be a super easy schedule in here, regardless of chronology. The AFC South, New York’s other divisional foe for this season, proved to be really great last year too, with three upper-echelon clubs. Who knows if that will be the case again this season. A lot may hinge on how they perform against NY’s NFC East.

It’s also pretty unlucky to get assigned a fourth-place (RE: easiest) schedule and having Detroit on the docket. The Lions did finish fourth in their division…at 9-8 with a +68 point differential, third-best in the entire conference in 2025.
So it was hard to imagine the Giants coming away with what anyone would deem an easy schedule after the release. All-in-all, as much as it could have, the schedule should play to their favor in my opinion.

When Will Nabers Be 100% Healthy?
Dan Salem: The Giants’ schedule is about as clear as presenting Winston’s pictures out of order. Clarity is lost and the drawings were never good to begin with. I’d argue that this entire season hinges on when Malik Nabers is 100% and fully integrated back into New York’s offense.
I’m rooting for the Giants to turn the corner and be a competitive team, but here are the unknowns New York must overcome for the schedule to even matter. There are a lot of them: Jaxson Dart’s ability to avoid a sophomore slump, Dart’s ability to fully grasp a new offense, Harbaugh’s ability to elevate his new team immediately, the Giants’ ability to have a healthy and competent running game, the Giants’ ability to play decent pass defense, the Giants’ ability to have a number two or three wide receiver of note, the Giants’ ability to hold a f***ing lead.

All of the unknowns will seem trivial when Nabers is 100% healthy, but I’m guessing that doesn’t happen until October. If it happens sooner, that easy start to the schedule will feel real and the Giants can get a grove going on offense early in the season. If Nabers doesn’t get back to 100% before the bye, then all bets are off on how the year goes for New York. He is their best offensive weapon, perhaps the best player on the entire team, and they need him healthy to be a good team right away.
I can actually envision a scenario where the Giants’ schedule is average at best, meaning only the Philadelphia games are truly difficult. But without Nabers back at full strength, I’m not sure any of this matters. Harbaugh and his team will need two full months to find their footing without Nabers on offense. He’s simply that good.
