Running Challenge: Exceed Your Expectations – My Running Diary

It’s a new year! Your calendar has reset along with your running log, so its time to challenge your runs and exceed your own expectations. That’s your running challenge for 2017. Go!

Diary of a Running Chick: January 2nd, 2017

Exceed your own expectations. That’s your running challenge for the new year and one I’m taking to heart. It’s the perfect time to challenge your runs, surprise yourself and crush expectations. I know that if you live in a cold weather climate it can be hard to run until Spring, but it’s the perfect time to challenge yourself and do it anyway! Exceed expectations, bundle up, and run. When I’m in a cold weather climate, as long as it’s not raining or snowing, I decide I’m running! I put on my cold weather gear, get comfortable and go. There’s no reason why you can’t arm yourself and challenge your runs!

I really want to run a lot this 2017 and that starts with this running challenge. I know it will be challenging for me come April, with a new baby in the house, so exceeding expectations is a must. For the first few months of the year I’m going for it and challenging my runs even more. I’ve been feeling great throughout my pregnancy. I’m definitely a bit slower, but my stamina has been flawless. That is definitely a major feat and I’m taking advantage!

No matter what challenges you are facing, learn to adapt and exceed expectations. I’m going to adapt my runs the farther along I get in this pregnancy. I really love what running has done for me and because I didn’t run as much as I wanted during the holidays due to the weather conditions, I’m craving it even more. I need to keep my runs going no matter what. There are some rainy days in the forecast for me, so I need to transition my outdoor runs inside. I’m lucky to have access to a treadmill and I haven’t really embraced running on it recently. This is one way that I’m going to challenge my runs, because I find it much harder to run inside. Next time it rains I’ll be pushing myself inside and crushing expectations!

Another way I’m challenging myself is to flex my running legs a bit more. I want to add longer runs back in to my routine. I’d been running seven miles at least one day a week religiously, and I loved doing it. I always felt so amazing afterwards! It was nice to just run and feel great while doing it. In order to tackle this running challenge, my seven mile runs are permanently back. I’m going to take all of my opportunities to embrace these runs and make more time for me.

If running is a new challenge for you, then just getting out there is the first way to challenge your runs and exceed expectations! Always be realistic about your distance and remember that you’ll be sore, but there are good ways to push through the soreness and create a daily running habit. It won’t be easy and it will take time, but you’ll get there!

I love this time of year and I love the reset of the calendar. It really does give you a clean slate and the perfect climate to tackle a running challenge! I love to start my year off strong and in recent years I’ve enjoyed running myself into and through the new year! That’s exactly what I’ve already done and will continue to do! Join me and get out there. Go!
