First, The Mandalorian is only 39 minutes and I found this so refreshing. This meant that the pace, packaging, and events of the show did not drag on, but also did not feel rushed. From this first episode, I want to know more about the Mandalorian and I also want to see his face! I keep saying this to Dan as we watched, but I know they don’t take their helmets off so hopefully that changes.

Like the new set of Star Wars films, The Mandalorian already has some great cameo’s. The alien that the Mandalorian tracks at the start of the episode is Horatio Sanz. It took me a moment to figure out it was him and when the Mandalorian and alien Horatio are in the taxi, the driver is Brian Pusane. I can’t wait to see more of the cameos in this series.

The meat of the episode was the Mandalorian receiving a new bounty, but it’s mysterious and lacks details. He takes it on and tracks his bounty and then the end of the show has such a great twist. SPOILER ALERT! The “50 year old” that the Mandalorian tracks is a baby Yoda. Now obviously it’s not Yoda, but from the same species.

The ending opens this show wide open. The Mandalorian shoots the droid bounty hunter he worked with to get there because he was going to shoot the baby so it makes us wonder if the Mandalorian will now protect the baby Yoda. It also begs the question that even though this baby Yoda is in a crib, can it walk and talk? The Yoda species obviously ages slowly, but that doesn’t mean it develops slowly.

The Mandalorian had the perfect beginning to make this show stand apart in the large universe of Star Wars. Check out our full reaction video! I can’t wait to see where this series will go. What did you all think of the pilot?
