My Running Diary: Finish Your Run Strong!

I absolutely love this time of year and I always feel an amazing accomplishment with every run I finish. It’s important to finish your run strong, especially this time of year! My running diary.

Diary of a Running Chick: December 5th, 2016

It can be hard to get out there and run this time of year. Holiday obligations and the weather always seem to get in the way. So I decided a few years ago that I would not treat this time of year differently. I would stand by my motivations and fitness. I always feel so much better when I get up and run, so why not make sure I keep that up, especially now!?

I will be traveling very soon for the holidays, and even though it will be much colder where I’m going than in Los Angeles, I’m not going to let that stop me from running. In order to do this, one thing that I focus on is finishing my runs strong! Finishing strong leaves an amazing impression on how the run went. No matter if it was super cold outside, if you had to really push to get going, or if you felt tired halfway through, you pushed through it and finished strong!

When I’m running on the East Coast in the winter, up near Boston, the hardest part is getting out of the house, especially if it’s very cold. But trust me when I say that by the end of a run, I always feel great! I always want to be running as fast as I can and finishing my run strong!

It’s definitely harder to run in the colder weather. It’s harder to breathe and I too find myself wanting to just stay in bed. Push that aside! Remind yourself how great it feels to finish your run strong and how amazing you’ll feel. It can really set you up for a wonderful day!

As we get closer to the holidays the pressure gets greater. You might have family coming to stay with you, or you might be going to visit family. I always use my runs as a way to keep myself feeling normal! It’s my time for myself, no matter what else I have planned for the rest of the day.

Pushing through your runs this time of year and finishing strong will completely invigorate you for the New Year. How you end your year has a big impact on how you begin the new year. If you’ve been running and keeping yourself active, you’re going to continue that into next year!

A great way to finish running strong is to not give yourself the opportunity to do otherwise. Don’t let this time of year affect your runs. Sure it’s colder and there is more stuff going on, but we’re still going to get out there and run! I’m still going to run strong and I’m still going to finish that run strong!

Remember to switch up your runs this time of year and keep things fresh. If you have a family member who enjoys running and you’ll be spending the holidays with them, then use them as motivation. Go out for some fun runs together! Make sure you take the opportunity to explore new routes on your travels and in your neighborhood. I always find that it helps me to finish strong, and it keeps me motivated to run more and to run every day!

No matter what you have going on, or what walls you’re putting up, let them go and finish your run strong! Running over the holidays is always an accomplishment!
