Running Success: Post Baby Run Was Amazing!

I talked last week about my preparation for my first run after having my baby. Boom! I’ve had running success on my post baby run! WOO!

Diary of a Running Chick: May 1st, 2017

I’ve actually now done multiple runs since giving birth and I’ve felt so great! My first run though was a bit daunting. I was excited and nervous. I was a bit nervous because I wasn’t sure what to expect. I hadn’t taken a month off from running in a very long time, like years and years and years. I was hoping that my walks would keep my legs active and not leave me completely useless on my run. Mission accomplished!

My preparation paid off, because my legs felt great on my first run. I didn’t push it too much though. I decided that I would go out and run two miles, nearly half my old route that would set me up for running success. I was originally planning on not running any hills, because I figured I’d work my legs up to that, but as I was running I was craving running the hills. By the time I finished I’d run almost 2.5 miles, including hills. It was so nice running!

My pace and time were not good, but it doesn’t matter. I know that my pace and time will get better the more I run. I will get back to my pre-baby running pace and I know that I can’t worry about pace for a while. What I’m working on is my stamina! I should be able to get back to that relatively quickly, since I had such a high stamina before.

My focus from here is to just get out and run. Run as often as possible. All that other stuff like distance, pace, and stamina will come the more I run. I can’t stress that to myself enough. Even though I ran while I was pregnant, it was definitely a different kind of running. I couldn’t run for pace at all. My legs and my body were very heavy. Now I’ve got to just let my body get itself back to where it was before.

Right now it’s just me running, but I plan on bringing the baby with me on runs. I know that it is going to be much different pushing a baby. I’m excited though, because it’s going to be fun with her It will also be more difficult, which is awesome. I’m going to love that challenge!

I’m so excited to be back to running! I wanted to have a nice seamless transition back to running and that’s what I had. That’s what my running success is all about! Throughout this whole pregnancy journey I really put out there how I wanted it all to go down, and the whole journey just fell right into place. I love that!

I feel like I’m getting back to my old self! I can’t wait to add in some nice long runs. I can’t wait to be running with my girl. I know she is going to love it, because she loved it when she was inside of me!

For now though, I’m letting my expectations go and just letting my runs happen! This week I’ll be gradually adding distance to my run! I’m so glad to be back!
