Be Happy with Your Run! My Running Diary

I’m guilty of judging everything I do with exercise. Especially now in the age of fitness trackers and apps to aid in your workouts, it’s hard not to judge ourselves. It’s time though to be happy with your run!

Diary of a Running Chick: September 26th, 2016

It can be hard to always be happy with your runs. What if you ran slower than yesterday? What if your run was shorter? A fool proof way to not let any of those thoughts get in your way is by setting an intention for your run and keeping with it. I love to do this for all aspects of my life. When you set an intention, that is what you’re focusing on. Nothing else matters! Embrace what you set and revel in the success of it.

I’m really focusing on not comparing myself to others, whether it’s my running partner or the running group I belong to. Running is so personal. Sometimes your pace or distance is solely determined by how your body and mind feel together that day. This is such a unique experience that each run, no matter how similar, is completely different.

Make running your win. I’ve talked about this before and it’s how I personally implemented a daily running practice. Getting up and out the door to run is my win for the day. It is my first accomplishment. It sets the tone for my entire day. I truly believe valuing your run and the success of running is a great way to start your day. For me, all the other stats are just a bonus.

Remember why you run. I run because it makes me feel good. It makes me feel happy. I love it! During most of my runs I focus on that, because that is what I love getting out of it. I don’t need to cloud the run with anything else other than the sheer enjoyment of it. Whatever you choose for your daily exercise should be fun! If it’s not fun and you don’t enjoy it, then it will be extremely hard to continue with it.

Remember your long term goal. A very long time ago I set my long term goal as just being able to go out and run. To run effortlessly. This definitely took some time, but now that I’m in this place I always remind myself of it. It was something that was on my list of goals for many years, a goal that I did not check off for a long time! I love that I’ve continued to embrace this goal and so I make sure I’m always fulfilling it.

Being happy with your run sets the whole tone for your day! It will spill into all aspects of your life. I love truly this! Its something I embrace with all my exercise. Holding yourself accountable to you and only you will help not just with your health, but with everything that you do! I always embrace that happiness. I love it, crave it, and it truly defines who I am as a person! If you’re happy with one aspect of your life, it seeps into the rest!
