The Godfather truth behind Joe Colombo and his involvement in the movie as depicted in the Paramount Plus TV show The Offer. Prior to viewing I had no clue who Joe Colombo, played by Giovanni Ribisi, was. They’ve really kept a lot of the details about him true to his life.
Joe Colombo was against The Godfather movie being made similar to how they depict it in The Offer. Though, Joe did not start the League of Italian Americans because of The Godfather. He started it because of the FBI, but one of his platforms was The Godfather movie. Colombo felt that Hollywood only depicted Italians as thugs.
Colombo’s did threaten Al Ruddy, smash up his car, threaten Bob Evans, and make it hard for The Godfather to get locations and permits to shoot in NYC. Colombo and Al Ruddy did meet and his big issue was with the word Mafia in the script.

Colombo did not have involvement in shutting down production of The Godfather. That is all dramatized for the show. His feud with Joe Gallo is true. I’m not sure if we’ll see it in the show, but Colombo is shot and paralyzed. They think Gallo did it so they retaliate, but people believe another member of The League of Italian Americans actually shot Colombo.
The Godfather truth behind Joe Colombo shows us The Offer stays pretty true to life! Share with us yours thought on him and check out our video breakdown of the truth.
