More of round three of They said what?
The rules here at Seesaw Sports: Player one presents player two with a sports quote.
– The quote can be about sports
– Can be said by a famous sportsman
– Can be both about sports and said by a famous sportsman, but NEVER neither one
The quote is given, along with three hints as to who said it. These hints can be anything from when the quote was uttered to facts about the speaker.
Player two then responds with their guess as to who said it and a brief explanation surrounding their conclusion. A correct guess is worth one point for player two. An incorrect guess is worth one point for player one.
The score is currently Todd – 3 points and Dan – 2 points
Now let’s finish off round three of… They said what?
My turn to wipe that smug grin off your pretty face.
“Don’t look back. Something might be gaining on you.”
Hint one: This was not said by a runner or olympic athlete
Hint two: This man was known for trailblazing and his cocky, smug demeanor.
Hint three: This man is in the Hall of Fame for his sport.
I hate to break this to you, but I have heard this quote before. Also, probably more importantly, I am pretty sure I remember WHERE I heard this quote. It was in a Satchel Paige biography. Of course, this would lead me to guess that they quote was uttered by the immortal Satchel Paige.
Glancing through your hints (like I needed hints!), my original suspicion is not proven incorrect. Who was more cocky than Satchel?? He used to tell his fielders to sit down during innings because he was going to strike out the side…and then he would!
Satchel Paige, final answer.
Damn it! You and your sports biography watching tricks. Satchel Paige is correct.
Score after three rounds:
Todd – 4 points
Dan – 2 points
