Seesaw Sports, where Dan Salem and Todd Salem throw down on the NFL, MLB, NBA and more. Two brothers from New York yell, scream and debate sports.
Welcome back, ladies and gentlemen, to the wonderfully crafted game of They said what?
For those new to the game or in need of a refresher, we’ll quickly run through the rules here at Seesaw Sports. Player one presents player two with a sports quote.
– The quote can be about sports
– The quote can be said by a famous sportsman
– The quote can be both about sports and said by a famous sportsman, but NEVER neither one
The quote is given, along with three hints as to who said it. These hints can be anything from when the quote was uttered to facts about the speaker.
Player two then responds with their guess as to who said it and a brief explanation surrounding their conclusion. A correct guess is worth one point for player two. An incorrect guess is worth one point for player one.
After two rounds, the score is knotted at 2 points a piece.
So, let’s play round three of… They said what?
TODD:
I love this game. Let’s go.
“It’s just a job. Grass grows, birds fly, waves pound the sand. I beat people up.”
Hint One – This was not said by a hockey enforcer.
Hint Two – This man was known for many interesting things he said.
Hint Three – At his apex, he was perhaps hated as much as he was adored.
DAN:
Damn, I love this quote. Grass sure does grow and the birds definitely fly. This man makes men bleed. My off the cuff guess, without reading your hints, was Mike Tyson.
Delving into the hints, I’m sticking with my gut and going with Mr. Tyson. He’s said tons of crazy things over the years and this quote might be his most profound.
Did I win the point?
TODD:
Burned you again! Todd takes the 3-2 lead!
As with my Wayne Gretzky quote from round two, I was trying to mislead you a bit with my hints, or at least throw you an obvious other answer. The hints would certainly not take you away from you original suspicions of Mike Tyson. However, perhaps your reaction could have. “…might be his most profound.” That doesn’t sound like Tyson.
That’s because it wasn’t!
It was the other great boxing talker who divided the country, Muhammad Ali.
