Every year on the second Sunday of November Disneyland park is taken over by pin up girls, rockabillys, psychobillys, greasers and vintage loves of all types. This year, www.mybabyjo.com presents the 5th Annual Rock Around the Park event on Sunday Nov. 11.
If you’ll be in the park that day you are sure to see victory rolls, tattoos, cuffed jeans, leather jackets and beautiful vintage dresses everywhere you look. The event begins at 8:00 am in the parking lot of Denny’s across the street from Disneyland where ride owners will gather and then caravan into the Disney parking lot in a steady stream of classic cars. It’s then “free time” until the main event of the day, and the start of the official Rock Around the Park meet-ups. At one o’clock thousands of rockabilly cats and kittens, dressed to the nines, will gather in front of Sleeping Beauty’s Castle for the group photo, which will be taken once everyone is posed and ready, at about 1:10. It’s truly a sight to see! Then the group will disperse and meet again at designated times around the park for other official meet-ups like the Kiddiebilly photo, at The Golden Horseshoe to see where the “billy” in rockabilly comes from with Billy Hill and the Hillbillies, Tomorrowland Terrace to see Rumble King and the Enchanted Tiki room.
It’s a great day for anyone who lives the lifestyle, loves the lifestyle or is just a fan . The park is full of plenty of eye candy, a fun upbeat atmosphere, and like-minded people that make it easy to make friends with other park goers. People have been known to meet a group while waiting in line and spend the rest of the day together, sometimes starting friendships that last for years. Many people have “Rock Around the Park” friends who they only see once a year at the event, and it’s exciting to see all the reunions that happen throughout the park.
After the park closes, the party moves to Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar at the Disneyland Hotel for those who aren’t quite ready for the party to end. It’s a great place for folks to chill, unwind from a long day, rest their feet and get a drink. The tiki atmosphere and fire pit outside make it a great place to end the night.
So if you’re in the area, or planning on going to Disneyland some time soon anyways, come on out for this Rockin event!
And if you’re in the Anahiem area and can’t make it to Disneyland, be sure to check out the pre-event Saturday night at The Juke Joint. Live music from 3 Way Ricochet and more, drinks and burlesque! $10 cover, 21 and over.
