New York Jets Young and Hungry For Playoff Glory

new york jets

The puzzle is nearly complete and the New York Jets have built a champion… or at least what looks like a championship team before the shenanigans of the NFL 2023 season transpire. Playoff glory feels inevitable as this young and hungry team is old, new, fresh and grizzled all at once. Take flight!

Many a fan of the New York Jets will tell you we were one player away last season from double-digit wins and a playoff appearance, if not more. That player is the quarterback, because no position was more inconsistent in 2022. But placing the blame for a late season slide solely on the shoulders of one position is ridiculous, because this is a team sport. That’s what makes this new 2023 team so promising and special. Find me a hole?

If one player was worth nearly four wins last season, imagine the heights these Jets can reach here in 2023. Former holes have been plugged, injuries healed, and confidence gained. With a major chip on their shoulders, the New York Jets are poised to win big and win often. Everyone knows we are all-in, but the hand we’re playing with feels unreal.

New York Jets Infinite Ceiling Is Real

Aaron Rodgers will be throwing to Garret Wilson, Allen Lazard, Mecole Hardman Jr., Denzel Mims, and potentially Corey Davis. This does not include a slew of UDFA wide recievers the Jets have added, as well as tight ends Tyler Conklin, Jeremy Ruckert, CJ Uzomah, Kenny Yeboah, and newly drafted Zack Kuntz. Not everyone will make the final roster, but damn this is a fine group of pass catchers. Add in running backs Breece Hall, Bam Knight, Michael Carter, and newly drafted Israel Abanikanda and we’ve got ourselves an offensive force.

All of this would be for nothing if not for a dominant wall up front on offense. With Alijah Vera-Tucker and Mekhi Becton both returning healthy, the New York Jets are strong on the offensive line. Laken Tomlinson and Max Mitchell compliment them, along with Connor McGovern at center. Add in newly drafted Joe Tippmann and Carter Warren for one stout group of protectors. Consider me elated for how high this offense’s ceiling is in 2023. Wow!

If the offense is rocking, what about the defense? Excuse the clichè, but its rolling. Sauce Gardner will be anchoring the defensive backfield with DJ Reed, Jordan Whitehead, Chuck Clark and Michael Carter II. There is great depth back there as well, so what’s in front of them? CJ Mosley returns to run this defense, flanked by Quincy Williams. Carl Lawson and Jermaine Johnson are joined by newly drafted Will McDonald IV on the ends, while Quinnen Williams and John Franklin-Myers fill the middle of the defensive line.

This a fast and aggressive group of defenders that will be disruptive and special. Coach Saleh is molding his defensive masterpiece and Mosley is the ideal player to conduct, just as Rodgers is the ideal player to conduct Coach Hackett’s offense. New York’s special teams gains Hardman as a punt and kickoff returner and while I’d like to sit here and tell you the team is complete, I know Joe Douglas has one or two moves left in him for summer.

Playing in the AFC East is never easy, but the schedule appears to have fallen in the Jets’ favor. With star veterans leading young squads on both offense and defense, the 2023 New York Jets must ignore expectations and crush this team’s former stigma. Everyone sees a winner on paper, yet expects the Jets to fail. Playoff glory awaits if this team can embrace the darkness, shut out the noise, and just win baby. Just win.
