I was driving down Lincoln Blvd. a few days ago and two words on a storefront window caught my eye. Ice Cream. Really, that would have been enough for me. But as I quickly scanned the storefront to determine what kind of icy deliciousness awaited me I saw this, “made with coconut cream and raw honey”. Done deal.
One day later, I returned to Kippy’s Ice Cream Shop in Venice with one of my favorite taste testing partners prepared for the possibility of discovering yet another gluttonous addiction, only to find that my fears were unfounded. While Kippy’s ice cream is most definitely habit-forming, guilt is absolutely optional as every one of their dreamy frozen flavors is made with pure, simple, and wholesome ingredients. Opened in June 2013 by Kippy Miller of Venice-based company Truly Raw Gourmet, Kippy’s offers organic, dairy-free ice cream that is made of five (or less) ingredients! Out of fresh, raw, and nutrient-rich coconut cream, coconut water, fruit, and honey, Miller has created a variety of luscious flavors like Coconut Honey, Himalayan Salted Chocolate, and my favorite, Orange Cream, all of which are free of soy, nuts, and gluten. Kippy’s makes their ice cream daily and offers a variety of healthy toppings including goji berries, bee pollen, and their very own “coco magic shell”.
If you find yourself savoring a scoop of Kippy’s and think you might want to forsake all other foods, you can! Kippy’s ice creams are so nourishing that they now offer the first ever Ice Cream Cleanse. Yep, you read that correctly—a diet that consists of only ice cream. What’s not to love?
