Scoring A Touchdown Anytime: TreVeyon Henderson +500

Todd Salem: This is not about who scores the first touchdown of the game. This is just scoring any touchdown, at any point. The top of the odds board are the heavy-hitters with the worst odds: Kenneth Walker III, Jaxon Smith-Njigba, and Rhamondre Stevenson. Then come the tight ends and lesser receivers. Then comes Drake Maye, who might rush one in. Then…Seattle’s defense. Okay. Then come some third- and fourth-string receivers, after which is, legitimately, someone I have never heard of: Seattle’s replacement backup running back George Holani.

After all those guys sits Henderson, nearly even odds with New England’s defense. During the small sample size of the current postseason, Henderson has admittedly taken a back seat to Stevenson and has yet to score a TD. But during the regular season, Henderson was the team’s leading rusher, and leader in rushing touchdowns and total touchdowns. Rookies wear down as the season goes on, so maybe he’s just completely spent, and the team knows it. But I’ll take those odds regardless and hope that is not the case.

Drake Maye Under 220.5 passing yards
Drake Maye Over 37.5 rushing yards

Todd Salem: It’s been happening all postseason to Maye and the New England offense. Passing has been hard to come by, but Maye has been a huge asset with his legs. As the defenses got tougher from Los Angeles to Houston to Denver, the Pats struggled to get movement, yet Maye had huge scrambling days in two of the three wins. It seems like that can only continue as they advance to face (arguably) the best defense of them all.

I’m less confident in the rushing total hitting the over as I am in the passing yards going under. Just like Houston and Denver before, this Seattle defense is no joke.

Kenneth Walker III Over 18.5 rushing attempts

Todd Salem: Zach Charbonnet is out for this game. As we established earlier, his replacement is someone named George Holani. This is going to be Walker’s game from start to finish. Seattle already likes to lean on the running game, even if they are not finding success. Their entire play-action scheme is based on pounding the run over and over.

Walker’s gone over this number in both playoff games thus far, and I think he may get his most action of the entire season in this one as Seattle attempts to avoid Christian Gonzalez and the NE secondary as best they can. Sam Darnold may end up with the accolades if Seattle pulls out a victory, but I bet (literally) that it has more to do with Walker’s usage and controlling the pace/style of the game than any specific Darnold throws.

TreVeyon Henderson Over 4.5 rushing attempts
TreVeyon Henderson Over 18.5 rushing yards

Dan Salem: Smart coaches hide something until the very end, which we’ve reached, and show the opposition something they aren’t expecting. That would be Henderson, who has been quiet in the postseason thus far.

If I know Josh McDaniels, he’s been hiding Henderson as his secret weapon. Perhaps the rookie needed rest, but the Super Bowl is when you give everything you have left. Seattle will not have game planned much for Henderson, so I expect him to carry the ball at least five times. Gaining 20 yards on 5 carries is not asking a lot, so parlay these two bets together for one Patriot sized win.

Cooper Kupp Over 3.5 receptions
Kayshon Boutte Over 2.5 receptions

Dan Salem: Kupp has the Super Bowl experience his teammates lack and Boutte is the receiver you won’t see coming until it’s too late. Both players have been key contributors this season, but in secondary roles within their respective offenses. Piggy backing on the same logic I stated above, both New England and Seattle will have plays designed for their secondary options. I also expect both Darnold and Maye to be forced into checking down to the likes of Kupp and Boutte respectively.

All of that is a long winded way of saying both players will get looks. Kupp snagging four passes and Boutte catching three of his own are low bars to reach. I realize both of these teams play great defense, but this is the Super Bowl and we have seen a lot of offense in this game over the last decade. I expect plenty of offense from the Patriots and Seahawks, meaning both Kupp and Boutte will benefit.

New England Patriots Last to Score in Second Half

Dan Salem: This is a gut feeling, mainly based on the fact that I think New England finds a way to win this game. They’ve been doing it all season, defying everyone’s expectations and grinding until the end. More importantly, they keep winning. I expect a close score with the Patriots hitting the final field goal to seal their victory.

Many years prior, New England won the AFC Championship in the snow, needing “luck” to pull out the victory. Remember the tuck rule? Then they took down the undefeatable Rams (NFC West) to win their very first Super Bowl. This team and season have a similar energy and lo and behold the Patriots won the AFC Championship in the snow, barely beating Denver. Now they are considered huge underdogs to the Seahawks (NFC West). Let’s see how this one ends.
