My favorite time of year!

The Holidays are my absolute favorite time of year!  I’m pretty sure that I’ve said this at least a thousand times over the past few months, but I’m saying it again.  It’s the only way I can imagine ending the year, with family and parties and delights. The Holidays put me into the best mood to start a brand new year. Yay!

The reason this time of year is by far my favorite is so simple! I get to spend so much time with my family. It can be hard living 3,000 miles away from some of the most important people in my life.  Sure we email, text, chat on the phone, and sometimes we video chat, but it’s not the same as being in the same room and looking my family in their pretty eyes.  I long for when I could just see my family on a whim, but the holidays always make up for it!

I’m so lucky that I’m able to spend this time of year with both my family and my man’s.  When I was a child I would get so excited for Christmas that I would make myself sick.  Yep, literally sick! I was that child who threw up from excitement. I anticipated Santa, I loved opening my presents, I loved singing carols, and I couldn’t wait to eat all the delicious food my mother made! While I’ve now outgrown getting sick, my excitement is still as strong as it’s ever been. I can’t contain myself!  It makes the holidays oh so special. Thankfully the family, presents and food are all still here, even if Santa has been long debunked. Every Christmas light puts a smile on my face and a song in my heart. I relish in the time I get to spend with my mom baking cookies, cakes, cheesecakes, and French toast casserole… so many deserts! And let’s not forget cooking Christmas dinner.  I always learn some new way to bake or cook and am amazed at just how wonderful my mom is at putting together a magical meal for everyone.  Our Christmas feast is served!

Another holiday tradition of mine is Christmas Eve yoga. So magical, this class always puts me in the best mindset for the holiday! We’ve done this class for many years now and it relaxes, makes me feel great, and works up a healthy appetitive. Then I don’t mind going over a little overboard trying all the food on Christmas day!

Exchanging gifts is wonderful every year and nothing beats another person’s smile. I love giving gifts to my family!  Sure getting presents is great, but I really love giving out what I’ve bought for others.  Everyone in my family is so excited to see one another open the wrapping paper, untie the bows and be surprised by a gift.  It’s evident that we’ve all put thought into what we get one another and it’s so special to watch.  There’s that wonder in their eye and of course the smile. Every moment is picture worthy!

This Christmas is extra special because my family get’s to share in the joy of my nephew’s very first Christmas! How wonderful! I know he won’t remember much of it, but it’s still fun to bring a giant smile to the little one’s face and help him revel in the delight of the holiday. So many memories rush back to me at this time of year.  Even though we’ve all changed and grown over the years, some things will never change.  My older brother will watch ‘A Christmas Story’ at least once.  My twin brother will go home with a hoard of cookies and tell me later how he gorged himself all in one day.  My dad will have a Christmas movie marathon and my mom will have their house decorated to a T.

I’m so lucky to spend so much time with my family at Christmas and this year is the first year that I’m married!  My guy and I have spent holidays together for the past few years, but this year feels different.  It feels more special.  Our first Christmas together married. I know we’ll remember it for the rest of our lives! So Happy Holidays! Make yours as special as you can and create lots of wonderful memories.  Take advantage of every moment that you can! Remember to keep the great feelings going all the way through the New Year and Merry Christmas!
