Monday’s Mainstream PinUp

Monday’s Mainstream PinUp is a new feature here on BuzzChomp.com. Every Monday I’ll be bringing you a modern use of PinUp style used in mainstream advertising or pop culture.

Our first feature is from Dolce & Gabbana’s Spring 2010 cosmetic line. Shot by Solve Sundsbo, it stars Scarlett Johansson and takes it’s cues from Marilyn Monroe’s blond bombshell glamor. Scarlett’s classic features and beautiful curves bring to life this timeless look, and her fun, fearless personality shines through giving it a modern feel. Dolce and Gabbana had this to say about their muse, “Extraordinarily striking and unforgettable, Scarlett Johansson captures the desirability of Dolce&Gabbana’s first cosmetics collection, The Make Up. She symbolizes the essence of the modern chameleon, the perfection of a natural beauty as well as the provocative woman, the desire to express the range of her personality from seductress to innocent, all of which is at the heart of the collection.”

This look was most popular in the 1950’s. Short hair with curls was the trend, as were red lips, bedroom eyes and porcelain skin. There were many blond bombshells in Hollywood, but no one did this look better then Marilyn Monroe.

It’s easy to see why her iconic look has been able to stand the test of time and no matter how much time passes, this classic pinup look will never go out of style.
