Dumbbell Set Review: Build Mental Toughness At Home

We applied decades of fitness training to find you the Best Adjustable Dumbbell Set review to crush it at home. Nothing builds mental toughness and confidence like dumbbell training on your time.

The lessons learned in fitness training are best applied to life. A well executed workout plan builds confidence and takes dedication, but nothing beats that feeling of success. To achieve your goals you need mental toughness, and for me that means dumbbell training at home. There’s an extra level of poise and mental strength required to pick those dumbbells back up for your next set and push yourself from ten reps to twelve. Add in the solitude and personal accountability of being at home, and you have the optimal environment to work your mental muscles while exercising.

I’ve used a variety of dumbbells over the years and some have a comfortable grip, while others just balance their weight better. My dumbbell set review identifies both an ultra comfortable but pricier set of adjustable dumbbells, as well as a budget friendly set that I first bought for my home gym. Pictured below is a set priced at $55 that I still use to this day. Omnie Dumbbells are simple to use and fit nearly all of your workout needs. Over the years I learned that it’s not about how much weight you do, but how many reps you accomplish. Continuing to push your set until you can’t do anymore is better than doing five reps of massive dumbbells.

The main downside of these weights are the grip. I wrapped the area in black duct tape and it made all the difference. The black looks sleek and because its duct tape, you don’t have to worry about it wearing away over time. They’re great for circuits that mix and match upper body exercises, or for honing in on one muscle group for the day. Obviously there is a cap on how much weight you can do, but as I already noted, just do more reps and you’ll ultimately be working harder. These are budget friendly and don’t take up a lot of space. If you’re hesitant about what to buy, I highly recommend starting with these and doing a dumbbell circuit like The Butcher Arms Circuit I reviewed last year.

Okay, we’re no longer keeping things simple. You want the ability to workout harder and get stronger at home. The Butcher Arms Circuit still applies here, but now with much higher weight. I’m sure you’ve seen the commercials, but sometimes they are actually good. Bowflex SelectTech dumbbell set is actually great. They adjust from five to over fifty pounds per dumbbell, meeting nearly everyone’s needs when it comes to weight training. Pictured below is the set and take note of the dials on each dumbbell. That’s how you adjust the weight. Its simple and quick to switch it up in the middle of your workout.

One of my favorite ways to weight train is by doing One Set to Failure. My routine goes like this: Bicep Curls, Triceps Extensions, Seated Rows, Bench Press, and Shoulder Press. You don’t need a workout bench to do any of these and the idea is to alternate muscle groups while working the full upper body. One set to failure is different from what I stated above, where we simply did more reps at a lower weight. Now we are going to keep lowering the weight of our dumbbells until we can’t do anymore. Until our arms are dead. Start with a weight that allows you to do at least ten reps. Once you accomplish ten, cut your weight in half and keep going. Continue to lower the weight until you are exhausted. I absolutely love this style of workout and the Bowflex SelectTech dumbbell set makes is super easy to do at home, without fancy gym equipment.

We all need mental toughness on life’s journey, and weight training goes a long way towards building that muscle. There’s a certain level of commitment required to get to the gym, but working out at home is its own unique challenge. Grab yourself either of these weight sets and get your workout on! The key to keeping your daily workout routine is forming a habit, but you can only do this if you enjoy what you’re doing and feel really good afterwards. Below are the two dumbbell sets I mentioned above.
