The Handmaid’s Tale Season 3 Ep 8 Highlights | Aunt Lydia True Nature

The Handmaid’s Tale Season 3 Ep 8 highlights break down the true nature of Aunt Lydia. We finally see what she was like before Gilead and how she could do the things that she does.

The Handmaids Tale Season 3 Ep 8 ‘Unfit’ was all about Aunt Lydia. The true nature of Aunt Lydia was revealed and it explains how she was able to fall in line with Gilead and become the head Aunt. This episode just hammered it home!

Aunt Lydia was a teacher. The more I thought about this after watching this episode the more this makes sense. Aunt Lydia was a nice teacher and lived a lonely life. She had been married before, but she said it was a “mistake.” She also had been a lawyer before she became a teacher.

We are shown that she befriends a single mother and son. She helps them and they help her. They bring meaning to her life, they open her up, and she even starts a relationship with a man at school. Her and this man have fun together, spend New Years together, and Aunt Lydia and him make up. Aunt Lydia tries to move it forward and the man says he’s not ready. This is when Aunt Lydia snaps.

Aunt Lydia can’t handle any sort of rejection. She takes this man wanting to slow things down like it’s the worst thing in the world. It’s completely irrational and she lets that blow up all the relationships she has. She turns the mother in to child services and her son gets taken away. The man wants nothing to do with her.

Aunt Lydia always had that hatred in her and it wasn’t until she didn’t get her way right away. She felt embarrassed and didn’t even recognize that all relationships take time and can be complicated. This shines so much light on her and we see how her actions blow up everyone. She was just as selfish as she is now.

Find out what happened in present day Gilead and how Aunt Lydia continues to control people, being selfish, and how it’s still blowing up in her face. What do you all think about The Handmaids Tale Season 3 Ep 8!
