One insane man versus a crazy surfing cult in a ‘battle’ for surfing privilege, with Nicolas Cage! The Surfer is an insane and fun film.

 

The Surfer is bat sh*t crazy in the greatest way imaginable. Nicolas Cage is a surfer trying to purchase his family home in a private surf haven in Australia. Yes, he’s Australian. No, he does not do an accent, but he DOES go full on crazy and insane when facing down the surfer gang that runs the beach. Part cult, part mobster, and all about the surfing. Nobody by Nicolas Cage could make this movie so good!

The Surfer is carried 100% by Nicolas Cage. It takes place pretty much in one location and drives his surfer into the depths of insanity. The sun and the locals literally are wearing him down, which is magic. I love that there is such a mix of what’s actually happening to him and what he thinks happens to him. Because of Nicolas Cage, this movie is awesome.
