The West Wing S1E14 Reaction

the west wing season 1

This is a tough episode and I really like what they did with it. President Bartlet is against capitol punishment. He struggles with whether he should intervene, which makes sense and tracks for who he is. The man being executed did horrible things.

This whole execution divides the President and his staff. Sam thinks they should do stop it. He tries to get Toby to speak to the president. Leo tells him that he would have kept the President out of Washington if he knew the execution would happen so quickly.

This is one of those issues where even if you don’t agree with it, it wouldn’t be smart of the President to step in. I love the scene where he talks to Charlie. He asks him if they catch the person who killed his mother will he want him to be executed and he said he would do it himself. This conversation definitely solidifies the President’s decision to not step in even though he doesn’t agree with capitol punishment.

The episode is great. The moments with President Bartlet were my favorite! What are your thoughts on S1E14. Make sure you watch my reaction video.
