Top 20 Party Schools in US Revealed By The Princeton Review

The Princeton Review has released the top 20 party schools in the United States and people are eager to know if their school made it on the list. How fun is your university?

The Princeton Review sent out its annual survey across the nation, asking students to answer a series of questions pertaining to their drug and alcohol use versus the amount of time spent studying. The top 20 party schools were those that used a lot of drugs and alcohol with a minimal amount of time spent studying outside of class. Makes sense.

Even if your school didn’t make the list, that’s okay. Three of the top 20 party schools were in New York, so you’re already out of luck if you live in one of the other 49 states. On top of that, 25% of schools are private schools across the U.S. and that number only increases once you hit college.

That doesn’t mean your college doesn’t have cool parties once in a while. You might be thinking your college party scene will never measure up to what you see on television, but you’re fully capable of throwing your own party or having a blast at someone else’s despite the absence of a professional film crew.

How to throw the perfect college party

Keep in mind that your party needs a few necessities to go off without a hitch. Firstly, remember that your guests will use a lot of cups, whether you’re opting for alcoholic drinks or not; dancing works up a sweat and talking over the music will leave your guests parched. Get 75 cups for every 25 guests you’re hosting and you should be fine.

Never doubt the importance of a theme. If you’re returning to college, your friends will have a blast trying to brainstorm complementary outfits to suit your theme. If you’re a freshman, costumes are a great icebreaker when you’re just starting out. You can’t go wrong with a “save the date party” but even wild themes like food or movie characters work just as well! Don’t be afraid to encourage crafting by holding a costume contest at the end of the night.

Once your party is up and running you might feel intimidated, especially when it’s the first party of the semester. If you’re worried about the safety and fun of your friends, implement a buddy system and set basic ground rules so things don’t get out of hand — ie. you break it, you buy it.

Stay safe while partying

You should also watch out for sketchy situations. This goes for any party setting, including dance clubs, bars, and any other situation where there may be drugs or alcohol involved. Even though we hope it never happens, one in five women and one in 14 men are sexually assaulted in college. Be a friend to anyone who needs your help, even if you don’t know them.

That isn’t to say you can’t cut loose and have fun, however. It might give you the opportunity to talk to a cute person in class. Even if you’re in a relationship, you can have a fun time playing detective and wing-woman your friends.

College parties are a minefield to navigate, but keeping these tips in mind will help your party run more smoothly. Even though your college may not have made the top 20 party schools list this year, there’s always next year.
