The Walking Dead Season 9 Episode 1 Recap and Reaction. It was a wild episode! Part of our BuzzChomp TV video series! We have a quick recap and then we dive into the Maggie problem.

First off, its your quick recap of The Walking Dead Season 9 Episode 1! A quick recap of everything that happened in this episode, beginning with a time jump. Everyone is now working together, and Rick organizes a group to venture to a museum to get some old school supplies for the Sanctuary. This is a big portion of the episode and here we find out that not everyone is happy with this arrangement.

Maggie does not really want to help out the Sanctuary and she makes this known to Rick, especially after the museum run where they lose one of her men. Yes, SPOILER ALERT, the blacksmith’s son dies on the way back from getting these supplies. This is going to create a big problem for Maggie. The museum mission was definitely drawn out and made a bit more dramatic than it had to be, but it felt consistent in the way The Walking Dead has progressed.

Daryl is leading the Saviors and has no desire to! He wants to go back to the Hilltop and be with Maggie and the baby. Yes, Maggie had her baby and named him Hershel. Carol decides she’ll step up, leave Ezekiel and take over for Daryl at the Sanctuary. Even though Ezekiel has just proposed to her.
The meat of the episode came at the end with the drama of The Hilltop and Gregory. Then we have the problem of Maggie going forward, because its going to be awkward. Maggie will be “phased” out of the show for a bit, but her character will be left open-ended. What does that exactly mean? To us it means that she will likely take a recluse role and have Jesus or Daryl talk for her. Therefore we will hear of Maggie’s decisions, but not see her. With the upcoming death of Rick, I think this is a bad move for the show!
