Why I still Track my Food Daily – Food Tracker

Back in 2013 I was getting married and had a dress I needed to fit into. So I decided to lose a little weight and track my food daily. To keep myself honest I tracked what I ate using MyFitnessPal. To this day I still use it and this is why I still love my food tracker!

It’s now three years later and I still religiously use a food tracker. I love MyFitnessPal. I truly do. I add my workouts into the app, as well as all my food, every day. I’m not trying to lose any weight right now and I’ve been very good about maintaining my weight over the last three years, in no small part thanks to using this food tracker. It’s all about holding yourself accountable. Don’t get me wrong, I still indulge every so often, but I’m more cautious about when and why I indulge.

Accountability is the big thing here kids, especially since there are so many new items added to MyFitnessPal all the time. You can record and track almost everything. Many restaurant meals have been added to this app, so you don’t have to dig into the nutritional info of a menu or google it online in order to record it. You can just add it right into your phone. I love that! I truly enjoy eating out, but I do find that eating out is a lot heavier, so if I know what I’m eating, then it makes my meal even more enjoyable!

It’s super easy to eat more than you need at meal time. When I started using this app I discovered what a portion truly is. I love that! I was definitely guilty of eating larger portions than I needed and I’m always still surprised to find out the exact portion size of certain foods. Since I’m committed to tracking what I eat, I’m honest about my portions and I make myself less in order to stick to the portion size. The funny thing is, I’m always satisfied by the portion size I make, even if I initially think its smaller than I want. Portion sizes are legit.

I’m all about not lying to myself. Too often we do this, especially when it comes to food and fitness. I made a deal with myself a long time ago that I wasn’t going to. I wanted to be honest. MyFitnessPal keeps me honest and I love that. There are times that I’ll eat something that I’m a bit ashamed to put in my food tracker, but I still go ahead and do it because if I can’t be honest with myself, then who can I be honest with?

I truly believe that we all need to be aware of what we’re eating. It’s so easy to just grab something pre-packaged, but pre-packaged food is always packed with more calories and more stuff. Using MyFitnessPal has opened my eyes to this. You can of course read the back of a bag of chips or what not, but if you go ahead and eat a “small” bag of chips its 150 calories per serving, yet the bag has two or three servings in it. That’s comparable to a meal! If you log that frequently, you’re totally going to realize you don’t need to eat the whole bag!

MyFitnessPal is great! It’s not just for losing weight. It’s great for maintaining and staying healthy. It keeps you accountable and aware of what you’re eating. That is why I have been using it faithfully for the last three years. Even during holidays I’ll use it. It’s just part of my daily habit and I love it! Find yourself a food tracker you love too!
