“They said what?” – Sports quote game Part duex (rnd 5)

Seesaw Sports, where Dan Salem and Todd Salem throw down on the NFL, MLB, NBA and more. Two brothers from New York yell, scream and debate sports.

August brings us round five of They said what?

Part one of the round went to Todd. Can Dan finally win a point, or will round five prove too much for him?

The rules at Seesaw Sports are as follows: Player one presents player two with a sports quote.

– The quote can be about sports
– Can be said by a famous sportsman
Can be both about sports and said by a famous sportsman, but NEVER neither one

The quote is given, along with three hints as to who said it. These hints can be anything from when the quote was uttered to facts about the speaker.

Player two then responds with their guess as to who said it and a brief explanation surrounding their conclusion. A correct guess is worth one point for player two. An incorrect guess is worth one point for player one.

The score after 4.5 rounds: Todd – 6 points and Dan – 3 points

DAN:

Must. Step. Up. Game.

“If you’re a sports fan you realize that when you meet somebody, like a girlfriend, they kind of have to root for your team. They don’t have a choice.”

Hint one: This person got famous in the very late 90’s and is even more famous today.

famous

Hint two: By their own accord, they’ve been a Red Sox fan and a Yankees fan.

Hint three: This person did not play professional sports.

TODD:

Wow, touche.

At first, I thought this might have been a Bill Simmons quote, although I never remember him specifically saying it. Of course, hint two removes that possibility.

Otherwise, you give what amounts to four or five total hints, and I still have no idea. I can’t even think of someone who qualifies for hint two. That should almost give it away!

I’m just going to blatantly guess. Jimmy Fallon.

He used to be a Sox fan but moved to New York. He’s way more famous today than he was on SNL. That’s all I got. Let me down easy.

DAN:

Wow. Unbelievable. I wrestled with what to give as hint three for some time. I wanted to make it tough and really wanted the point.

But it seems the tide has now fully turned. My hints were just enough. You are correct. Jimmy Fallon is the man who not so famously uttered this quote.
