Please Scare Me Haunted House

I simply love Halloween! I love dressing up, carving pumpkins, and, dare I say, even eating some delish candy.  I’m a sucker for mini Charleston Chews, preferably vanilla.  But above all I love being scared! Nothing beats a strong hand to hold while cowering in fear, awaiting the next fright. October is the one time of year that I finally get my haunted house fix! The bigger, the more touchy-feely the haunt, the better.

I vividly remember waiting in line as a child for hours to enter the scariest haunted house I’ve ever been to. It was tucked away in rural Connecticut in a very old and creaky colonial house.  The haunted path twisted forever inside the house as I clutched onto my mother’s arm for dear life. She always reminds me that while we crept through the haunted house I was begging them not to scare me. But I loved it! My mom and I were both petrified and it was amazing. I love being scared.

This past weekend I went with a group of my friends to The Reign of Terror haunted house in Thousand Oaks, CA.  It’s a biggie and even though I’m now older I knew it would scare me silly.  One of my friends was conquering her fear of haunted houses and the whole drive there, wait let me strike that, the whole day before she was making comments about how scared she was.  Her emotions totally got me and we were both excited and scared when we started to go in.  This haunted house was amazing; unlike the east coast haunted houses, it was not in a house, but in a strip mall above a gym.  Didn’t matter, the production value was top notch and once inside you didn’t know where you were.  It was split into four separate sections aptly named the blood manner, haunted house, miner’s revenge, and the asylum.   It was just light enough inside so everyone could truly see all the gory details.

During my entire adventure through the house I tightly gripped my friend’s hand, so much so that I was nervously sweating.  The anticipation of being scared and the mere idea of being petrified kept me on the edge and I jumped when they wanted me to jump and I screamed around every corner.  Blood-curdling screams of fear and pleasure.  If it only it were scarier!

When it was all over my heart stopped pounding and my laughter began.  All of my friends laughed.  We laughed at how scared we were and we laughed at each other for being so scared.  I only wish that we could go to haunted houses all year long!

What’s your take on haunted hayrides, or haunted plays? I love interactive haunted attractions!
