The Most Delicious And Easy Vegan French Bread Recipe

vegan french bread

French bread is absolutely delicious and surprisingly easy to bake at home. Besides being my favorite bread, it’s the perfect first bread for you to bake. My recipe is the most delicious and easy Vegan French Bread!

My vegan French bread recipe is truly a special recipe because it’s super easy and oh so delicious. This MUST BE the first bread recipe you bake at home. You’ll never feel bread is too hard to bake ever again. For a long time I avoided baking homemade bread, because I thought it was too daunting and would take forever. I created this recipe to prove I was wrong. Bread does not normally take super long and you simply need to allow time for the yeast to activate. That’s it!

I first discovered this recipe here and then altered it to my liking. Since there are only six ingredients, I already had them all in my pantry. I’m betting you do too, but the one ingredient you might need to buy is active dry yeast. I highly recommend buying a pack of 4 or 5 packets so you always having them in your pantry and can make bread whenever you want.

There’s not a lot of active prep time with this recipe, but I must remind you to give yourself enough time for the yeast to sit. This takes about 45 minutes. Make sure you factor that into your planning. This is a great recipe and you can totally make this into one long French bread, although I liked making mine into two loafs. That way you have leftover bread for another time!

Preparation:

  1. Place the yeast into the bowl of your stand mixer, or into a large bowl. Add the sugar and 1/2 cup of water. Let the yeast activate, it should start to bubble, for about 5 minutes.
  2. Add the remaining water, followed by 2 cups of flour. Mix and then add salt. Add another 1 1/2 cups of flour and knead for 5 minutes. You want the dough to be slightly sticky, but smooth. If it sticks to the bottom of the bowl like a puddle, then add 1 tablespoon at a time more flour.
  3. Shape the dough into a ball on your countertop. Lightly oil a large bowl and place the dough inside. Turn the dough over once to get it lightly coated with the oil. Cover the bowl with a towel, place in a warm spot, and let the dough sit for 45 minutes. It should double in size.
  4. Once the dough has doubled, put it back on your countertop and deflate it by kneading it. Then divide the dough in two.
  5. Form each half into a ball. Punch each ball into a circle, then roll each out into a cylinder. Press the seams in with your fingertips.
  6. Roll each cylinder into a long rope, about 10-12 inches in length.
  7. Line your baking sheet with parchment paper. Place the two ropes on your baking sheet side by side, about 4 inches apart. Then sprinkle them with a little flour.
  8. Cover your loafs with a towel and let them sit again for 45 minutes, until they are puffy and have once again doubled in size.
  9. Preheat your oven to 450 degrees Fahrenheit. Make sure you do this prior to the dough being ready to bake.
  10. Cut three diagonal gashes into your bread, but not too deep or your bread will deflate. Bake for 25-30 minutes.
  11. Let bread cool before slicing, then enjoy!
  12. Watch me bake this french bread in 30 seconds.
