Love those Christmas Traditions!

Christmas is by far my most favorite time of the year and it comes with the most amazing traditions of any holiday. Rock around that Christmas tree people! Break out the holly and be jolly. When I was a kid I longed for Christmas day. Hell I still do. Every night before bed I’d talk to Santa and pray for the gifts I wanted. Now I know what you’re thinking; no, it wasn’t all about presents for me. That was just the cherry on top of the most amazing sundae ever! I loved the whole experience so much and I’d get myself so excited that on more than a few Christmas’ I was so ecstatic that I threw up! Yep, I was that child.

Now, as an adult, I’m still just as excited for Christmas! Okay, okay, I no longer throw up, but I for sure can’t wait to wake up on Christmas morning to a house full of cheer. And I have no bones about going to bed at ten o’clock on Christmas Eve just so morning can come that much quicker! But really it all boils down to Christmas traditions for me. And everyone can have their own traditions!
In my family we are creatures of habit, amazing and wonderful habits. On Christmas Eve day my mom and I get up way early and finish off all the cooking. In the afternoon we attend the most amazing hot yoga class. Then, after burning some major calories, we have lobsters and shrimp and popovers for dinner! What are popovers you ask? They are the most delicious homemade puff pastry. Not really a roll, not really a biscuit, they simply fall in the flaky, yummy, tasty in my belly category. And let’s not forget the baked stuffed potatoes. Oh man, all this talk of food is making me hungry! After dinner my mom puts out a spread of Christmas cookies, YUM, and then we hop in the car for a Christmas drive to look at lights, followed by A Christmas Story on TBS. Woo, now do you see why I need to go to bed early?

On Christmas day we are up at dawn and down the stairs into the family room to open presents. Presents! We have a little breakfast and then get ready for all the family to come over to celebrate. The food spread my mom makes is so overwhelming with turkey, stuffing, roast beef (I don’t touch that one!), yams, mashed potatoes, salads, cheeses, olives, pastitsio, spanakopita without spinach (just cheese people!), Christmas cookies, pecan pie, and cakes. Oh man, I’m stuffed just thinking about all the food! My whole family comes over around two o’clock and we socialize and eat all day long!

I could live that day over and over, just like the ABC Family movie Christmas Every Day, except I’d be joyous and happy as opposed to being a spoiled bratty boy! My Christmas traditions make me oh so happy. I actually don’t need any presents! I’m more excited to give the gifts I’ve bought for my family and to spend time with my brothers, sister, parents, and my amazing fiancé. I just love the day; it makes me so happy and grateful to be alive!

Hopefully you have some amazing traditions of your own. Just remember you’re never too old to start a new one! Gorge on Christmas music and movies until you have to put them away for another year. Don’t eat too much! For me, the smell and little bites satisfy. And don’t get too excited you throw up! That’s my thing and you can’t have it. Embrace the day and the joy of giving your love to all those around you!

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!
