Kids need nourishment while enjoying their favorite meals during the holidays, and the benefits of introducing a keto diet vastly outweighs the challenges. That’s why I’ve put together keto friendly holiday meals for kids!

The holiday season makes it harder to prepare healthy meals, let alone keto recipes your whole family will enjoy. Your picky eaters get even pickier and traveling makes meal selection more challenging. That’s why making preparations earlier is so important, starting with some simple recipes.

Keto Friendly Holiday Meals

Keto meals are easy to prepare and can be regularly rotated during the holidays. They offer a delicious and filling alternative to the otherwise heavy meals the holidays are best known for. Just don’t let your kids in on the secret. These recipes can also be made vegetarian, but may no longer be keto when using plant-based meats. Check your ingredients label to be sure.

Chicken and Bacon Avocado Boats

Ingredients:

  • 2 ripe avocados
  • 1 cup chicken breast, diced
  • 8 slices of bacon
  • 1/4 cup of fresh carrot, shredded
  • 1 tablespoon fresh oregano, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon fresh cilantro
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Preparation:

  1. Preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Line your baking pan with a baking sheet and set it aside. 
  2. On a clean surface, slice each avocado in half and remove the seed. 
  3. Using a spoon, scoop out two spoonfulls of flesh from each piece of avocado and set it aside. 
  4. Fill in the space left behind with diced chicken. Then sprinkle the raw carrot on top of it. 
  5. Cover each avocado half with two bacon slices lengthwise from end to end.
  6. Sprinkle the fresh oregano and cilantro on top, followed by a little salt and pepper to taste. Save a little fresh cilantro and oregano for garnish once the meal is ready. 
  7. Place each avocado boat on the baking pan and bake in your oven for 30 minutes, or until the chicken and bacon are fully cooked. 
  8. Promptly remove from the oven and top each with the flesh of avocado you set aside. Finally, garnish with the remaining cilantro and oregano.

Low-Carb Tomato Soup (Vegetarian)

Ingredients:

  • 10 ripe tomatoes, chopped 
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 garlic cloves, crushed
  • 1/2 teaspoon fresh oregano
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1/3 cup heavy cream
  • 3 cups water
  • 2/3 cup feta cheese, crumbled
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup red onion, chopped

Preparation:

  1. In a large pot, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Once the oil is hot, add in the chopped red onion and fry for two minutes.
  2. Add in the crushed garlic and fry for one additional minute. 
  3. Add in the chopped tomatoes, oregano, salt, basil, and water. Maintain the medium heat until it starts boiling, then lower to a simmer. Add in the honey. 
  4. Let the soup cook for 20 minutes, then use an immersion blender to mash all of the tomatoes. By now, all the tomatoes are nice and tender. 
  5. While blending, pour in the crumbled feta cheese and heavy cream.
  6. Cook the soup for one additional minute, then remove from the heat. Serve warm.
