Indulge in Cravings – Homemade Pizza Recipe

There was a time in my life when I had pizza every weekend. Sometimes it was a greasy slice of plain cheese after a night out. Other times I’d split an entire large pizza with my man. Talk about indulging! We’d house the whole pie between just us. Those days are well behind me, but I still love to indulge my cravings. Homemade pizza recipe at your service.

I recently came across the easiest and most delicious recipe for homemade pizza dough. It is my new obsession!

For a long time I’d buy dough to make homemade pizza. I liked what Trader Joe’s had to offer and would simply top it. Did you know that making your own dough is actually easy?

It’s way more fun to make your own pizza dough and does not require a lot of ingredients, another common misconception. I stumbled upon an amazing dough recipe at the House of Yumm Blog, and of course tweaked it, spiced it up, and made it all Mandi.

Homemade Pizza Dough

Ingredients:

2 ¼ cups whole wheat flour

1 tablespoon baking powder

1 cup of almond milk

¼ cup butter (or vegan butter)

A dash of salt

3 garlic cloves (crushed)

1 tablespoon dill

1 tablespoon black pepper

1 tablespoon red pepper flakes

Directions:

Preheat oven to 450 degrees F.

Using a stand mixer with a dough hook (if you don’t have one use a regular mixer) on low speed, mix all the ingredients together until they form into a ball. I have a lot of fun seasoning my dough, so be bold and experiment.

Using a rolling pin coated with flour, take your ball of dough and roll it out! I roll mine on a large wooden cutting board and then transfer it to a greased baking sheet.

I like to spray my dough with olive oil prior to topping it. Make sure the olive oil gets all around. If you don’t have a spray bottle, just spoon it on to the dough.

Top your pizza. Sauce or no sauce, then cheeses and toppings. My favorites include olives, turkey pepperoni, and mushrooms. [See below for more options]

Once topped bake for 12-15 minutes. The thinner the dough, the less time it will need.

That’s it kids. That’s how easy it is to make pizza at home.

Topping your pizza is of course the best part. Recently I made homemade tomato sauce, because store bought sauce has sugar added! It too is an easy recipe to follow.

If you’re limiting your added sugar like me, make your own sauce or go sauce less. Whatever suits your fancy, place the sauce down first and then add those toppings. I enjoy going classic with just cheese, mushrooms, olives, and jalapeno. I’ve also added Soyrizo with mushrooms and cheese, or turkey pepperoni.

The best part about this homemade pizza recipe is that you can control how heavy or light you make it. If you were to eat just the dough without any toppings on it, then half of the pizza is about 600 calories. Most single slices of pizza from restaurants are 250-300 calories. Feel free to indulge!

I love indulging my cravings the healthy way! By making homemade pizza, I’m able to control how much I eat and not worry about having too much fat or calories. I know exactly what’s going into my pizza! This recipe is quick, easy, delicious, and satisfies all those cravings. YUM!
