Health Check! Be Honest and Check In with Your Body

No matter where you are at, take the time this week for a health check! The holidays are far behind us and we should be back to eating normally and well into our fitness routines. How are you feeling?


The year is well under way and it’s time for a health check. We are far enough past the holidays that you should be back to eating normally and well into your fitness routine. No matter where you’re at, be honest and take the time this week for a health check!

First and foremost, be honest with yourself about where you’re at. It doesn’t matter if you set lofty fitness and health goals and you have yet to reach any of them. Let that go. Engaging in this health check allows you to wipe the slate clean! You really can do this every month, mentally and physically!

Now let’s break this health check down, separating out your diet and your fitness. Remember, when I say “diet” I mean what you eat, not going on a diet. I was definitely free with my diet around the holidays. I wanted to enjoy the treats, but I didn’t go overboard. That being said, I’ve really let go of the sweet treats this year, with my ice cream indulgence as the lone exception. I also got back to making healthy homemade meals.

I’m at a really good spot with my diet, but I’d say that one thing I need to keep in check is my snacking. I enjoy crackers and chips, so the key for me is not going overboard. I’m an advocate for everything in moderation, and I’m my healthiest when I don’t cut out a bunch of foods, but rather limit myself.

Now onto the fitness part of your health check. If you did not start your 2018 fitness journey as strong as you wanted, that is okay. Let yourself off the hook. It’s easy to get swayed by not already meeting your “New Years Resolutions,” so don’t fall into that trap. This health check is here to help put you back on the path you want to be on.

I’m very satisfied with my own fitness journey. At the beginning of the year, I set out to run six days a week and get myself up and out in the mornings. I’ve successfully done this so far! Even on days I haven’t wanted to get out and run, I’ve adjusted my run and still got out there!

For my own fitness part of this health check, I want to push myself farther on my runs and add more strength training into my workouts. This will come! I’m really happy with where I’m at, so now I can push myself even further.

If you are not happy with where you’re at, use this health check as motivation to change. Your health is in your own hands. You have to make sure your diet is where it needs to be and your fitness is consistent. Taking the time to check in with yourself is the first step. I can’t say it enough; be honest with yourself. Any time is the perfect time to dedicate yourself to living a healthy lifestyle.

Spend some time taking a hard look at yourself. Let go of any disappointment and dedicate yourself to you! Take the time to do a health check and make a plan to get yourself to where you want to be.
