Have Fun with Running: My Running Diary

Running can be extremely frustrating, but it can also be so much fun! It’s easy to put a lot of pressure on yourself, so remember to go out there and have fun! Enjoy it!

Diary of a Running Chick: March 13th, 2017

This morning as I was leaving for my run, my man said to me to have fun on my run. I’m pretty sure this is something that he says to me often, but this morning it stuck with me on my run. I love to run, but am I always having fun while doing it? I might not be, which is totally silly!

Running is definitely a journey. It has its ups and downs. The past couple of months I’ve definitely faced a lot of those. Embarking on a run and being pregnant is totally different from doing so while not being pregnant. I had to completely change my mindset and there were definitely a lot of days when I wasn’t having fun! That’s just silly kids! We can always enjoy the moment. Always!

Recently things have changed for me. I have been having fun with running! I’ve appreciated the fact that at eight months pregnant, I’m able to get out there and run. It’s by no means like it was before, but I know that it is only temporary and that I can be proud of what I am doing.

As I was running this morning, I realized just how grateful I was that I could get out there and run. It didn’t matter how fast I was going. It didn’t even matter how far I went. The sheer act of running was fun. It’s something I’ve loved doing for years. It’s my time for me and I truly appreciate that I can do it! I found myself having so much fun running. I just let myself run. I let go of any expectations that I had and it felt so free.

I want to make sure that I always have fun on my runs no matter what. This is totally about mindset. Years ago I was told that in order to truly keep your fitness regiment, you need to find something you love to do! You need to have fun with your workouts. For me that has been running and I realized that even during those hard days, I was still having fun because I loved the progress I made with my runs!

Even now, years later, I need to remind myself of that. The first time I ran my longest run, I loved it! I ran from my apartment all the way down to the beach and back. It was nine miles and I felt amazing doing it. I didn’t even plan on running that far. My man and I just kept running! It was the best feeling ever! I had so much fun!

If you’ve committed yourself to running, you better be having fun with it! Something has drawn you to run. There is no reason to suffer through running and exercise. Embrace those endorphins you get and reflect on what it is about running that made you want to do it in the first place! Then enjoy.

Running is a journey. It’s not always the smoothest path, but even a hard run can be fun! Trust me when I say that running while pregnant has been hard. It’s been mentally and physically draining, but no matter what I’m determined to still have fun while running!
