Ditch the Diet this Spring!

I HATE dieting, both the concept and act of doing so. I know I’m not alone and besides being stressful and full of anxiety, dieting is not good for us. Time to ditch the diet this Spring!

I once did the South Beach Diet and lost about ten pounds in one month, but then stopped and never went back. It was my first and last diet. Back then I just wanted to lose some holiday weight and didn’t want to be strict about eating a specific way, plus I love bread! The diet may have worked, but all diets work initially. They are one piece of an unhealthy lifestyle. Since then I’ve ditched dieting completely, lost even more weight, and am here to get you to ditch your diet too!

Let’s face it, dieting is a vicious cycle. Most people do a fad diet, lose a bunch of weight and then fall off the diet only to gain most of the weight back. And that’s the whole point! There wouldn’t be a dieting industry if it was easy to stick with a fad diet. Its such a silly concept to me and its way too easy to fall into this cycle. Gain weight, lose weight, repeat. This Spring I say DITCH it. Break the cycle and take control of your life.

Ditching dieting will empower you. Its about being completely honest with yourself. I know it can be hard, but this is a concept I stress in all aspects of life. You have to take a hard look at your life and eating habits and not sugarcoat it. Deciding to ditch dieting means you take control of your eating habits and your exercise schedule, overhauling if necessary. It’s a lifestyle change, a permanent one, and once you weed out your bad habits, you’ll be on your way to success.

Be honest about what you’re actually eating and when you are eating. Remember that ditching a diet definitely takes longer to see results, but the results are permanent. Don’t get discouraged if the weight doesn’t completely fall off. Everyone is unique in body type, weight, age and sex. I recommend keeping a food diary. I use MyFitnessPal, which is great. Add in EVERY single thing you eat during the day. You want to try to stay around or under 500 calories per meal as a female. You’ll be shocked to discover just how many calories you’re actually eating.

3-Reasons-To-Stop-Dieting-Immediately-

Once you know what you’re eating, make sure your portions are controlled. Our society just throws food at us all the time. Snacks everywhere. Cake for every special occasion. Commercials for over-processed food and fast food joints creating “4th meal.” We don’t need all that junk, but we’re accustomed to it. Learn to separate yourself from feeling like you always need to eat and eat a lot of food at once, then you’ll be able to get your portions in check.

By controlling your portions, you’ll be able to indulge every now and again and feel good about it. That’s the secret! There’s no reason to always indulge and its not good for us. Eating french fries daily is not something any of us should do, but enjoying them from time to time is fine. Just know they add anywhere from 200-500 calories to a meal, so indulging with a friend is ideal.

The best part about ditching the diet is that you’re creating a healthy lifestyle for yourself. You’re figuring out what works best for you. You’re eating a healthy breakfast, lunch and dinner, while knowing when you can enjoy yourself. You’re eating one snack, not four, throughout the day. You’re skipping the drive-through on your way to work and making your own breakfast sandwich instead. But the best part of all, you’re not always looking to lose weight! Once you reach your target goal, you’re maintaining your weight which is much easier and a lot more fun.

We all have those friends that never seem to worry about their weight. Isn’t it time that you become one of them? Ditching dieting is the best way to be the healthiest version of you. Rethink how you live your life. Take control of what you’re eating. Make smart and honest choices! By the end of the year you’ll be the healthiest version of you!
