Buns, Guns, and Abs Fitness Challenge Gets it Right!

Don’t let the name “Buns, Guns, and Abs” fool you with its cheesiness. This 30 day fitness challenge gets it right! With a mix of three challenging exercises and no set pattern to rely on, you’ll stay on your toes for the full thirty days. I began this challenge before Christmas and it ran through the first few weeks of the New Year, a perfect accomplishment for 2016! Nothing says fitness like a balanced daily workout. Buns, guns, and abs.

This fitness challenge mixes three exercises: squats, push-ups and leg raises. The multi-exercise challenges are easily my favorite, and strategically I wanted to end and start the New Year with such variety. By working three different muscle areas, you get an overlapping workout that builds quickly from day one. The challenge begins pretty mellow with 50 squats, 5 push-ups and 25 leg raises. But the gloves come off after the first week, and you’ll be sore straight through to the end.

A bonus of this three exercise challenge is its pacing, which is always on point with staggered rests for each exercise, rather than full days off. I love that! It’s spaced out perfectly, and just when you feel like you need a squat rest, you get a squat rest. The same goes for the push-ups and leg raises, making it clear that this challenge had a lot of thought put into it.

Push-ups in particular are extremely challenging for me, but starting with five and building up to forty was perfect! I loved the feeling of doing forty straight push-ups. It’s invigorating and a great challenge. As for the leg raises, they are definitely the hardest part of this challenge, yet they remain approachable. I just had to break them down into two sets. You build up to 100 leg raises twice during the thirty days; first about halfway through, and then again on the final day. Woah, do they sculpt your abs! The squats are also great, ending with 250 on day thirty. A nice steady pace will keep them manageable in one full set.

This fitness challenge begins as an add-on to your daily workout, then quickly turns into a full on workout of its own. You’ll get your heart rate up and even get a solid sweat going. By the final day its ten to fifteen minutes of intense exercise. If you need to break any of the exercises into sets, do it! Make sure you keep them manageable, plus the more sets you do, the harder the burn in your abs and thighs.

I’ll be repeating this fitness challenge down the road. Don’t let the silly name fool you, it’s not just for women. My husband and I did this challenge together and he loved it too. It pushes you mentally and physically, which is the best balance to have during a thirty day challenge. Even if you’re just starting a fitness regimen, this is an excellent challenge. It keeps you motivated and you’ll definitely see some major results after thirty days.

The Buns, Guns, and Abs challenge is a fabulous workout! Put it on your list, or even better, start it tomorrow! Let me know if you try it out, and how your progress. I’d love to hear about your journey and successes!
