Running Success Challenge: Embrace Personal Motivation

Happy 2018! Last year was full of running success in my own life, so coming into the new year I’ve committed myself to embracing personal motivation. I challenge you to do the same!

Diary of a Running Chick: January 10th, 2018

Embracing personal motivation will fuel your fitness and running success! First thing first, you need to figure out what your motivation is. Mine is to match my 2016 running self. That year was my best year of running. I found an awesome groove and I kept it going all the way through my first two pregnancy trimesters. I knew that 2017 wouldn’t be the same, giving birth and all, so now I’m motivated to be that person again.

Now that I know my motivation and you know yours, we won’t let anything get in our way of achieving that running success. This can be done by keeping yourself on a schedule. Here in Los Angeles its “winter,” but what does that really mean? It means the chance of rain. Rain never bothered me before, because if it was light enough I would go out and run, or I’d use the gym. Now I have to shift my thinking, since I don’t have a gym anymore and I’m running with my baby.

How do I shift my mindset about winter? Take this morning for instance, it had rained a bit overnight but was not raining. In the past I might have gone to the gym or I might have gone running. Today I decided I should definitely run, because the forecast is rain for at least a day or two and I might not be able to run tomorrow. Before I might have been lazy, but not this year!

I’m committed to embrace my motivation. I’m a better me when I run consistently and it keeps me sane. It’s still an adjustment having a baby, especially since I’m a lighter sleeper until I know for sure she doesn’t need me in the middle of the night. Skipping my runs doesn’t make me feel better. It is not better for me to sleep in and be lazy. I ALWAYS feel worse. That’s not what I will embrace this year. I embrace my run motivation to achieve running success.
