Running Success: Aligning with Your Body – My Running Diary

To truly have running success, it’s all about aligning with your body. There are times when you can really push yourself and there are times when you need to back off. Knowing when these apply to you is how to align with your body. My running diary.

Diary of a Running Chick: April 17th, 2017

I absolutely love to run. It’s my favorite part of the day. On days that I don’t run or can’t run, I completely miss it. It wasn’t always like that and it definitely took time to get this way, but I was determined to truly be a runner and have running success!

It takes work to get there and have your own running success. You have to be completely honest with yourself and align with your body. When I first started to take control of my running, I knew that I needed to be honest with myself. I’ll never forgot how sore my legs were. It took what felt like a very long time for my legs to not be sore every morning I woke up. There were days that I got up to run and tried to get out of bed and I just knew, I needed to take that day off. That being said, there were other days when I knew that I could push it and get out of bed, even though I was sore. That’s truly when I aligned with my body.

Right now, knowing I still need to wait a bit longer to go running again, its making me antsy! I can’t wait to get my legs moving! I feel like they’re strong and ready to go, but then again I know that I need to ease back into it. I want to make sure my stitches have dissolved and I’m good to go! I don’t want any set backs! Waiting to fully overcome an injury or life event is another part of aligning with your body for running success.

I’m so glad that I worked to align my body, because a part of me is telling myself to just go for a little run. No biggie, you can do it. But I know that what’s best for me is to fully make sure I’m healed. I’ve been walking a ton and this past weekend I went for a great four mile hike. It’s one of my favorite hikes and it’s very intense. I felt amazing doing it. My legs are a bit sore now, but I know I’ll be ready to run soon.

Taking the time to align with your body will make running so much more approachable. It will also help you avoid injury. I’m in a running group on Facebook and I read a lot about other people’s injuries. Thankfully, I have not sustained any injuries and I don’t plan on it, because I listen to my body and I do what is necessary for it day by day.

There is absolutely no reason why you can’t go out and run whenever you want. You can avoid injury as long as you align with your body. Trust yourself to know what is best for you. Don’t compare yourself with others and just remember to always be true to you! I know I’ve created a life long routine for running success and no matter what, I’ll be continuing it and embracing it!
